Week 2: No Condemnation

Word of the Week - Week 2

Scripture:
Romans 8: 1-3 -  Therefore, there is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.

I am not condemned.  Why?  Because Jesus came. Or at least that's how I understand it.  Apparently the law of sin and death with too heavy of a burden.  So heavy that whatever system God had in place before Christ's death was not sufficient for conquering sin.

We are no longer plagued by the ritual of atonement whereby we have to try harder and sacrifice animals year after year to push back the judgement of God on our lives.  Because He sent His Son, our loving God could finally identify with our humanness.  I believe God found out that obedience is not born out of a demand for obedience, but by grace that allows us to change.

But, even things that are freely given aren't always easily accepted.  I have determined that I will take advantage of all of the grace that I can get....not to take advantage of it, but to help me become all that God wants me to be.  I realize that this may not be that easy from some, but it is essential for living a life of freedom.

Thank you God that you don't condemn those who love you.
